4 Ways to Care for Your Queen Today
#1: Be Attentive to Her Needs
You should know her better than anyone. You are her inner circle, her lover, her best friend. You know what upsets her and what makes her laugh so hard she snorts. At times we can lose sight of our significant others’ needs because others encroach on that time or mental space. Namely, children. When you have kids, many of a mama have gotten lost in that title and all that it entails. Remind her of who she is to you, as a wife, and as a woman. Be aware of what she needs, because those tend to change over time as well. Take notice. Pay attention. Listen.
#2: Rub Her Feet
It started when wifey was pregnant with our first, I began rubbing her feet and knees each night. This practice hasn’t stopped and it’s been seven years. I enjoy it as much as her because we get to be close and I can rub some of her stress away. Add in some magnesium butter and she can drift off to sleep in peace. Imagine the mom whose dogs are barking after a long day of motherhood lying down and having some good heart-to-heart while lowering her blood pressure and anxiety at your hands.
#3: Remind Her What Makes Her Amazing
This may sound silly but adults get complimented a lot less as they grow older. Especially when they spend most of their days with children and the majority of their conversations are centered around why someone isn’t eating, who took what from who, and what that smell is. Having meaningful adult interaction as a parent is essential, especially with your spouse. Take the time to remind her of exactly who she is and why she’s amazing, because she truly is. Every day she puts on the helmet, sword, and shield when she fulfills her role as a mother. Let her know she’s doing it right.
#4: Be Intimate (Not Just When Making love)
As a teen whenever you heard the word intimate you probably automatically thought it meant sex. Intimacy is a lovely, subtle and sweet thing that might be a precursor but isn’t focused on sex. It’s focused on connection. Caressing a forearm or thigh, not grabbing a handful of booty. Laying down with her head on your chest as you play with her hair. Holding hands in public. Random bachata dances in the kitchen. Being close and enjoying your connection not only benefits both of you, but it shows the beauty of intimacy to your children. You shine as an example of what love should look like because you really are in love and that;’s what it looks like!
